Schickel was falsely accused of killing his 20-year-old girlfriend Ursula Rohling on 13 September 1966, who was actually killed by Joachim Kroll aka The Ruhr Hunter.

Composer Rezső Seress known for Szomorú Vasárnap (Gloomy Sunday) commits suicide by jumping from the window of his apartment at the age of 69 in Budapest, Közép-Magyarország, Hungary.

Seress actually survived jumping out of his window, but later in the hospital choked himself to death with a wire. His song 'Szomorú Vasárnap (Gloomy Sunday)' sparked a worldwide wave of suicides in 1933.

Purdy fired 106 rounds with a Norinco Type 56 AK-47 semi-automatic rifle in three minutes killing five predominantly Southeast Asian refugee schoolchildren and wounding 32 others before turning a Taurus PT92 pistol on himself. The victims were 9-year-old Rathanar Or, 8-year-old Ram Chun, 6-year-old Sokhim An, 8-year-old Oeun Lim and 6-year-old Thuy Tran.

Dwyer killed himself in front of the gathered reporters at a press conference with a .357 caliber revolver. Dwyer's suicide was subsequently broadcast to a wide television audience across the state of Pennsylvania. He was about to being sentenced for taking a $300,000 kickback.

Nazi psychiatrist Werner Heyde aka Fritz Sawade known for organizing the T-4 Euthanasia Program commits suicide by hanging in his cell at the age of 62 in Butzbach, Hessen, Germany.

After World War II Heyde was interned and imprisoned but escaped in 1947. He went underground using the alias Fritz Sawade and continued practicing as a sports physician and psychiatrist in Flensburg. Many friends and associates knew about his real identity, but remained silent even as he was an expert witness in court cases. His true identity was revealed in the course of a private quarrel, and on 11 November 1959 Heyde surrendered to police in Frankfurt after 13 years as a fugitive. Five days before his trial was to start Heyde hanged himself in prison.

Merrett shot his 55-year-old mother Bertha on 17 March 1926, she died on 1 April. Charged with murder and forgery the jury returned a verdict of not proven in February 1927. In 1954 he strangled his 43-year-old wife Veronica Bonnar and drowned her 72-year-old mother Lady Mary Menzies.

Byck shot and killed Maryland Aviation Administration Police officer George Neal Ramsburg before storming aboard Delta Air Lines DC-9 Flight 523 to Atlanta, which he wanted to crash on the White House to kill President Nixon. When pilots Reese Doug Loftin and Fred Jones told him they could not take off until wheel blocks were removed he shot them both. After a standoff with police Byck committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

Revolutionary student Jan Zajíc commits suicide by self-immolation at the age of 19 in Wenceslas Square, Praha, Bohemia, Czechoslovakia.

Around 1:30 in the afternoon Zajíc walked into the passageway of the building at No. 39 on Wenceslas Square and ignited his chemical-soaked clothes. Zajíc was unable to run out of the door and collapsed and died in the hallway. "Mother, father, brother, little sister! – When you read this letter, I will already be dead or close to death. I know what a severe blow my act will be to you, but don't be angry at me. Unfortunately, we are not alone in this world. I am not doing this because I would be tired by life, on the contrary, because I cherish it too much. Hopefully my act will make life better. I know the price of life and I know it is the most precious thing. But I want a lot for you, for everyone, so I have to pay a lot. Do not lose your heart after my sacrifice, tell Jacek to study harder and Marta too. You must never accept injustice, be it in any form, my death will bind you. I am sorry that I will never see you or that, which I loved so much. Please forgive me that I fought with you so much. Abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko commits suicide by slashing his arms at the age of 67 in 118 E. 95th Street, New York, Manhattan, New York, United States.

Rothko's body was found by his assistant Oliver Steindecker when Steindecker arrived in the morning for work. Rothko was lying face-up on the kitchen floor of his studio in a pool of blood, his arms outstretched. He was dressed in an undershirt, long johns and long black socks. He had removed his glasses, shoes and trousers (which were found folded over the back of a chair) before slitting his arms with a double-edged razor. He first took the razor in his right hand (after carefully wrapping a tissue over one one side of the razor) and made a cut in his left arm. He then switched the razor to his left hand and made an even deeper cut in his right arm. Both cuts were made just below the bend of the elbow. The autopsy revealed that Rothko had also overdosed on anti-depressants.

Fuchs was found hanged with the cable of his electric razor. How exactly a man without hands and under almost constant video surveillance could accomplish the manipulations required to convert an electric cable into a noose sufficiently robust for successful self-hanging was never properly explained.

Bank robber Larry Eugene Phillips commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 27 in Bank of America, 6600 Laurel Canyon Boulevard, North Hollywood, California, United States.

About an hour earlier Phillips and Emil Mătăsăreanu entered and robbed the bank but were confronted by LAPD officers when they exited the bank and a shootout between the officers and robbers ensued. The robbers attempted to flee the scene, Phillips on foot and Mătăsăreanu in their getaway vehicle, while continuing to exchange fire with the officers. Phillips was shot in the right hand, causing him to drop his Beretta 92FS pistol. After retrieving it, he placed the muzzle under his chin and fired. Phillips was simultaneously shot by a bullet that severed his spine.

Purvis died from a gunshot wound to the head fired from the pistol given to him by fellow agents when he resigned from the FBI. A later investigation suggested that Purvis may have shot himself accidentally while trying to extract a tracer bullet jammed in the pistol.

Hamilton shot 16 children and one teacher dead and wounded another 15 with two 9mm Browning HP pistols and two Smith & Wesson M19 .357 Magnum revolvers before killing himself. She died from a staph infection from the bites plus kidney failure from the mercury poisoning.

With Dylan Klebold he killed 12 students and one teacher in the Columbine High School Massacre. Harris was equipped with a 12-gauge Savage-Springfield 67H pump-action shotgun (which he discharged a total of 25 times) and a Hi-Point 995 Carbine 9 mm carbine with thirteen 10-round magazines (which he fired a total of 96 times).

In depair over the loss of his job and heavy debts Kecinsky shot his wife Lisa and seven children and took his own life.

Spree killer Moses Pearson aka Pickle Daddy commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 31 in Jackson, Georgia, United States.

Pearson began his robbing and killing spree in Jacksonville, Florida the day before. He killed two people and wounded seven others before fleeing the city with three women as hostages. Pearson then fled northward along Interstate 75 into Georgia, robbing service stations and truck stops and leaving seven people wounded and one dead. Along the route his three hostages escaped as he engaged in several gun battles and was wounded in the cheek and ear. Pearson shot himself in the head when he was closed in by the police.

School shooter Robert Steinhäuser commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 19 in Gutenberg-Gymnasium, Erfurt, Thüringen, Germany.

Earlier that day Steinhäuser shot and killed 13 faculty members, 2 students and one police officer with a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun and a 9mm Glock 17. Before Steinhäuser committed suicide he was confronted by one of his teachers who said, "Du kannst mich jetzt erschießen." Steinhäuser is said to have answered, "Herr Heise, für heute reicht's."

Mass murderer Ronald L. Taylor commits suicide by throwing himself from an overpass onto the 605 Freeway at the age of 46 in Los Angeles, Artesia, California, United States.

Earlier that day Taylor clubbed to death his 40-year-old wife Ruthie, 24-year-old son Rick, 29-year-old sister-in-law Mylissa Campbell, 6-year-old niece Jolissa Morales and 24-year-old family friend Tomy Kang Jung. Taylor died of his injuries three hours later at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood.

SS-Sturmbannführer Otto Günsche entered the study and found the two lifeless bodies on the sofa. Eva Braun was with her legs drawn up to Hitler's left and slumped away from him. Hitler had shot himself with his own Walther PPK 7.65. The gun lay at his feet and Hitler's head was lying on the table in front of him. Blood dripping from Hitler's right temple and chin had made a large stain on the right arm of the sofa and was pooling on the carpet. Braun's body had no visible physical wounds and her face showed how she had died—by cyanide poisoning

At 20.00hrs Goebbels arranged for SS dentist Helmut Kunz to inject his six children with morphine. When they were unconscious, Magda Goebbels and Ludwig Stumpfegger, Hitler's personal doctor who then crushed cyanide capsules in their mouths. Shortly afterwards Goebbels and his wife went up to the garden of the bunker where they killed themselves.

Writer Jerzy Kosiński commits suicide by ingesting a lethal amount of alcohol and drugs and wrapping a plastic bag around his head and suffocating to death at the age of 58 in New York, Manhattan, New York, United States.

Kosiński suffered from multiple illnesses towards the end of his life and he was under attack from journalists who accused him of plagiarism. By his late 50s he was suffering from an irregular heartbeat as well as severe physical and nervous exhaustion. His parting note read: "I am going to put myself to sleep now for a bit longer than usual. Call it Eternity."

World War I veteran Harold B. Wobber commits suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge at the age of 47 in Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, California, United States.

During a stroll on the walkway Wobber took off his coat and vest, threw them to a passer-by and declared "This is where I get off. I'm going to jump." After his death newspapers reported Wobber was a victim of shell shock and had been under mental health treatment. It was the first suicide on the Golden Gate Bridge, just a little over three months past its opening.

Gonzales shot both 52-year-old pilot Ernest Clark and 31-year-old copilot Ray Andress of Pacific Air Lines Flight 773 Fairchild F-27A in the head with a Smith & Wesson Model 27 .357 Magnum revolver, causing the plane to crash and killing all 41 other passengers and one more crew member on board.

Journalist and leader of the Rote Armee Fraktion Ulrike Marie Meinhof commits suicide by hanging with a towel at the age of 42 in Justizvollzugsanstalt Stammheim, Asperger Straße 60, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

On demand of Meinhof's attorney Klaus Croissant and the International Committee for Political Prisoners an international investigation commission was created in order to examine the conditions surrounding Meinhof's death. The German authorities refused to give the complete (first) autopsy report to the commission, hindering their investigation. In 1978 the committee published its report, concluding that: "The formal claim that Ulrike Meinhof committed suicide by hanging is unfounded, given the fact that the investigation results reasonably converge to the conclusion that she could not hang herself. Most probably Ulrike Meinhof was already dead before she was hanged and there are warning signs indicating the involvement of a third party regarding her death."

In Denderwindeke he shot is parents-in-law, both survived.

When Turing's body was discovered, an apple lay half-eaten beside his bed, and although the apple was not tested for cyanide, it was speculated that this was the means by which a fatal dose was consumed. In 1952, Turing was convicted of acts of gross indecency after admitting to a sexual relationship with a man in Manchester. He was placed on probation and required to undergo hormone therapy.

Before Seifert attacked people at the school with a home-made flamethrower, a mace and a lance, killing eight students and two teachers and wounding twenty-two others. Seifert had crafted all of his weapons about two months prior to the attack. The lance was made from a broomstick and a triangular scraper, while he used a pump bracket to create the mace. His flamethrower was made from an insecticide sprayer with a wire netting attached to the nozzle and filled with a mixture of old motor oil and paint thinner.

Mass murderer Gian Luigi Ferri commits suicide by a shot through the head at the age of 56 in Pettit & Martin law firm, 101 California Street, San Francisco, California, United States.

Ferri killed eight people and wounded six more in a shooting attack with a pair of TEC-9 handguns and a Norinco NP44 before he was closed in by the police. He claimed he had been poisoned by monosodium glutamate and that he had been 'raped' by Pettit & Martin and other firms.

Writer Ernest Miller Hemingway commits suicide by a shot in his mouth at the age of 62 in Hemingway House, Ketchum, Idaho, United States.

Hemingway unlocked the basement storeroom where his guns were kept went upstairs to the front entrance foyer and "pushed two shells into the twelve-gauge Boss shotgun, put the end of the barrel into his mouth, pulled the trigger and blew out his brains".

Serial killer Herb Herbert Richard Baumeister aka The I-70 Strangler commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 49 in Pinery Provincial Park, Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada.

In his suicide note Baumeister described his failing marriage and business as his reason for suicide. He did not confess to the murders of the eleven men whose remains were found in his backyard.

Cop killer Barry Peter Prudom aka The Phantom in the Forest commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 38 in Malton Lawn Tennis Club, Malton, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

Prudom was closed in by a firearms squad from Greater Manchester Police. There were a total of 21 penetrating shotgun wounds to Prudom's body which had 'insufficient velocity to enter the body cavity', a .22 bullet fired into the right side of his head which was consistent with a self-inflicted wound.

Actress Carole Landis aka The Actress Who Could Have Been but never Was commits suicide by an overdose of Seconal at the age of 29 in 1465 Capri Drive, Pacific Palisades, California, United States.

Landis was crushed when actor Rex Harrison refused to divorce his wife and actress Lilli Palmer for her while their affair was an open secret in Hollywood.

Mass murderer James Scales Purrington commits suicide slashing his throat at the age of 47 in Old Belgrade Road, Augusta, Ballard, Maine, United States.

On the same day Purrington killed his wife Elizabeth, and seven of his eight children; 19-year-old Polly, 15-year-old Martha, 12-year-old Benjamin, 10-year-old Anna, 8-year-old Nathaniel, 6-year-old Nathan and 2-year-old Louisa. The Sunday before his death he wrote to his brother that on the reception of the letter he should be dead and requesting him to take charge of his family.

Miss Hungary 1985 Csilla Andrea Molnár commits suicide by an overdose of Lidocaine at the age of 17 in Fonyód, Dél-Dunántúl, Hungary.

Molnár complained of being harassed by the public saying, "I don't know whether I can bear this, everybody is harassing me. They ask: Where and from whom did you get those beautiful clothes? Who helped you? Do you or your father have special connections with the jury? And so on." She was the first Hungarian beauty queen after a 50-year interval.

Brood left a note stating "Party on. I'll be seeing you."

Writer, traveller, political officer, administrator, spy and archaeologist Gertrude Margaret Lowthian Bell aka The Uncrowned Queen of Iraq commits suicide by an overdose of sleeping pills at the age of 58 in Baġdād, Muḥāfaẓät Baġdād, Iraq.

There is much debate on Bell's death but it is unknown whether the overdose was an intentional suicide or accidental since she had asked her maid to wake her.

Mass murderer Cyrano A. Marks commits suicide by a shot through the head at the age of 40 in 3783 Adamsville Drive, Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

Minutes before Marks killed his 33-year-old girlfriend Deleane Briskey, her children 15-year-old Craig DeCarlo, 16-year-old Tasha, 13-year-old David Antonio and 9-year-old Antuan Lucas and Deleane's 37-year-old sister Essie Jo Hugley. 11-year-old Santonio Lucas survived.

News reporter Christine Chubbuck commits suicide by a shot through the head at the age of 30 in WXLT-TV, Sarasota, Florida, United States.

Chubbuck was doing a live newscast during her Suncoast Digest show and said "In keeping with Channel 40's policy of bringing you the latest in blood and guts, and in living color, you are going to see another first: an attempted suicide" and shot herself behind the left ear. Chubbuck was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead fourteen hours later.

Dewaere used a 22 Long Rifle given to him by Coluche.

Gorky had undergone a cancer operation and was involved in a car crash in which he broke his neck. His wife left him and several of his works of art were destroyed in a studio fire.

In Brust's house the police found a wide variety of pornography and torture-devices as well as the walled-in body of 16-year-old Mark Matson.

Serial killer Andrew Phillip Cunanan aka American Gigolo/American Psycho commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 28 in 5250 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, Florida, United States.

Cunanan shot himself in the head with a .40-caliber Taurus PT92 semiautomatic pistol he had stolen from Jeffrey Trail — the same weapon he used to kill David Madson, Lee Miglin, and Gianni Versace.

Artist Marvin Israel found Arbus' body in the bathtub two days later.

Mass murderer Mark Orrin Barton commits suicide by a shot through the head at the age of 44 in Acworth, Georgia, United States.

On 27 July Barton woke up early in the morning and bludgeoned his 27-year-old wife Leigh Ann and his children 11-year-old Matthew David and 8-year-old Mychelle Elizabeth to death as they slept. On 29 July he went to the offices of his former employer Momentum Securities with a Colt 1911A1, a Glock 17, a H&R Revolver and a Raven MP-25 and shot and killed 58-year-old Edward Quinn, 38-year-old Kevin Dial, 42-year-old Russell J. Brown and 30-year-old Scott A. Webb. Barton then walked to the nearby All-Tech Investment Group building and killed 48-year-old Allen Charles Tenenbaum, 52-year-old Dean Delawalla, 60-year-old Joseph J. Dessert, 45-year-old Jamshid Havash and 44-year-old Vadewattee Muralidhara. Immediately prior to entering the manager's office at All-Tech Barton was heard to say "I hope this doesn't ruin your trading day."

Antonius was in the mistaken belief that Cleopatra had already killed herself. When he found out that Cleopatra was still alive, his friends brought him to Cleopatra's monument in which she was hiding and he died in her arms.

At the subsequent autopsy eight mg/dL of chloral hydrate and 4.5 mg/dL of Nembutal were found in Monroe's system. It was reported that President Kennedy was the last person Monroe called.

Nurse Sally Potterton commits suicide by a shot in the head in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

The same day she lured 21-year-old drug dealer Maurice Searle to her house, whom she held responsible for her 17-year-old daughter Penny's drug addiction, aborted pregnancy and suicide. Searle was knocked out and tied to a bed, then slowly drained of all his blood while Sally explained her revenge on him. Then she called the police and told them what she had done and turned a German army pistol at herself.

Andy Warhol Superstar Andrea Feldman aka Whips commits suicide by jumping from the fourteenth floor at the age of 24 in 51 Fifth Avenue, New York City, New York, United States.

Feldman summoned several ex-boyfriends including poet Jim Carroll to the New York City apartment of her parents to witness what she called her 'final starring role'. Holding a Bible in one hand and a crucifix in the other she jumped from the window. Feldman left a note that said “I’m headed for the big time. I’m on my way up there with James Dean and Marilyn Monroe.”

Spree killer Daniel Julian Gonzalez aka The Freddy Krueger Killer commits suicide by cutting himself with the edges of a broken CD case in his prison cell at the age of 27 in Broadmoor Hospital, Crowthorne, Berkshire, United Kingdom.

Whilst awaiting trial at Broadmoor Hospital Gonzalez tried to bite himself to death and was viewed as being so dangerous that officers would accompany him in riot gear.

Suicide pilot Richard Rick Russell aka Beeboo commits suicide by an airplane crash at the age of 29 in Ketron Island, Washington, United States.

Russell stole a Horizon Air Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft from Seattle–Tacoma International Airport and made a barrel roll over Puget Sound amongst other maneuvers before fatally crashing. In a recorded conversation with Air Control Russel talked about himself as "Just a broken guy, got a few screws loose, I guess."

Nazi leader and Stellvertreter des Führers Rudolf Walter Richard Hess commits suicide by asphyxiation at the age of 93 in Kriegsverbrechergefängnis, Berlin, Spandau, Berlin, Germany.

Hess took an extension cord from one of the lamps, strung it over a window latch and hanged himself. A short note to his family thanking them for all they had done was found in his pocket.

Mass murderer Wade Frankum aka The Strathfield Killer commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 33 in Strathfield Plaza, Sydney, Strathfield, New South Wales, Australia.

Apparently without provocation Frankum pulled a large knife from an army surplus duffel bag and repeatedly stabbed one of two teenage girls who were sitting behind him in a café called The Coffee Pot. Leaving the knife in the body of the girl Frankum pulled a Chinese-made SKS semi-automatic rifle out of his duffel and shot around the café, killing several more people. Frankum then shot the café's owner dead and fled into the main area of the mall where he killed his last victim. When closed in by the police Frankum knelt on the ground next to his car and committed suicide. Frankum killed seven people: 15-year-old Roberta Armstrong, 51-year-old Robertson Kan Hock Voon, 37-year-old Patricia Rowe, 47-year-old Carole Dickinson, 61-year-old Joyce Nixon, 17-year-old Rachell Milburn and 51-year-old George Mavris.

Spree killer and mass murderer Michael Robert Ryan aka The Rambo Killer commits suicide by a shot through the head at the age of 27 in John O'Gaunt School, Hungerford, Berkshire, United Kingdom.

Ryan first fatally shot his mother and 15 others with a Type 56 semi-automatic rifle M1 carbine and a Beretta 92FS in a shooting spree. The dead were: 35-year-old Susan Godfrey, his neighbours Roland and Sheila Mason, 51-year-old Kenneth Clements, Roger Brereton, George White, his neighbour Abdul Rahman Khan, his mother Dorothy Ryan, Francis Butler, Marcus Barnard, 67-year-old Douglas Wainwright, 51-year-old Eric Vardy, 22-year-old Sandra Hill, Jack and Myrtle Gibbs and 34-year-old Ian Playle.

Mass murderer Patrick Henry Sherrill known for the Edmond Post Office shooting commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 45 in United States Post Office, 200 N Broadway, Edmond, Oklahoma, United States.

The day before supervisors Esser and Bland verbally disciplined Sherrill for his behavior. Shortly after 7 a.m. Sherrill entered the building with two M1911 semi-automatic pistols and a Ruger semi-automatic pistol and shot twenty-two co-workers, killing fourteen. The dead were 41-year-old part-time clerk Patricia Ann Chambers, 41-year-old part-time clerk Judy Stephens Denney, 38-year-old supervisor Richard C. Esser, 47-year-old clerk Patricia A. Gabbard, 30-year-old clerk Jonna Gragert Hamilton, 48-year-old supervisor Patty Jean Husband, 34-year-old clerk Betty Ann Jarred, 30-year-old rural carrier William F. Miller, 49-year-old rural carrier Kenneth W. Morey, 42-year-old rural carrier Leroy Orrin Phillips, 51-year-old rural carrier Jerry Ralph Pyle, 33-year-old letter carrier Paul Michael Rockne, 31-year-old part-time clerk Thomas Wade Shader and 27-year-old clerk Patti Lou Welch. Sherrill's attack inspired the American phrase 'going postal'.

Bern shot himself in Jean Harlow's bedroom, drenched in her perfume. Leaving a note "Dearest Dear, Unfortuately this is the only way to make good the frightful wrong I have done you and to wipe out my abject humiliation, I Love you. Paul - You understand that last night was only a comedy."

Commander of KZ Jägala Aleksander Laak commits suicide by hanging at the age of 53 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Laak emigrated to Canada after World War II and exposed as living as a naturalized Canadian citizen under the name of Alex Laak. Israeli journalist Michael Elkins claimed that Laak was in fact confronted one day after his wife had left their house to go to the movies by a Jewish Avenger squad that clandestinely murdered Nazis. He was confronted with his crimes and their intended punishment and he accepted their offer of being allowed to commit suicide rather than be killed.

As troops surrounded the palace during a military coup Allende gave his last speech vowing not to resign. Then Allende committed suicide with an AK47 rifle gifted to him by Fidel Castro.

Army veteran and suicide pilot Frank Eugene Corder commits suicide by an airplane crash at the age of 38 in South Lawn of the White House, Washington, District of Columbia, United States.

Corder stole a Cessna 150 the night before and departed from Aldino Airport in Maryland while severely intoxicated, which is presumed to have led to his later miscalculation to crash into the South Lawn instead of the White House itself.

War leader Abdel Hakim Mohamed Amer commits suicide by an overdose of medication at the age of 48 in Caïro, Al Qahirah, Egypt.

Amer was approached by high-ranking Egyptian officers and was given a choice to stand trial for treason, which would inevitably have ended with his conviction and execution, or die an honourable death by taking poison. Amer chose the latter option and received a full military burial.

Entwistle died of multiple fractures of the pelvis. A suicide note read "I am afraid, I am a coward. I am sorry for everything. If I had done this a long time ago, it would have saved a lot of pain. P.E."

Evangelical priest Rolf Günther commits suicide by self-immolation at the age of 41 in Kirche Zum Heiligen Kreuz, Falkenstein, Sachsen, Germany.

Günther carried two 20l milk canisters filled with petrol and poured them over himself before the altar while 300 people were attending mass. He then spread his arms and let the candles ignite his robe. Two more spare canisters exploded as the floor around the altar was covered in flames.

"It was like good, fully developed veal, not young, but not yet beef. It was very definitely like that, and it was not like any other meat I had ever tasted. It was so nearly like good, fully developed veal that I think no person with a palate of ordinary, normal sensitiveness could distinguish it from veal. It was mild, good meat with no other sharply defined or highly characteristic taste such as for instance, goat, high game, and pork have. The steak was slightly tougher than prime veal, a little stringy, but not too tough or stringy to be agreeably edible. School shooter Matti Juhani Saari commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 22 in Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, Kauhajoki, Länsi-Suomen Lääni, Finland.

Before Saari shot and killed ten people with a Walther P22 semi-automatic pistol, doused a classroom with petrol and set it on fire. At some point he also threw a Molotov cocktail into a language laboratory. Saari fired a total of nearly 200 shots. The highest number of shots inflicted to a single victim was twenty. Saari left behind two handwritten notes in his school dormitory stating that his motive for the shooting was "I hate the human race".

Serial killer Joe Joseph D. Ball aka The Alligator Man aka The Butcher of Elmendorf commits suicide by a shot through the heart at the age of 46 in The Sociable Inn, Farm to Market Road 327, Elmendorf, Texas, United States.

Ball is known to have killed two and said to have killed as many as 20 women whose remains were fed to his five pet alligators. When two Bexar County sheriff's deputies went to question him, Ball pulled a handgun from his cash register and killed himself with a bullet through the heart.

Borel first shot his stepfather Yves Bichet, his 11-year-old half-brother Jean-Yves Bichet. Then he went to the neighbouring village of Cuers and shot dead 12 people with a .22 rifle.

Philosopher Walter Bendix Schönflies Benjamin commits suicide by an overdose of morphine tablets at the age of 48 in Hotel de Francia, Portbou, Catalonia, Spain.

A fierce critic of Nazism, Benjamin was on the run for the Gestapo. Benjamin wanted to cross the border into Portugal and then sail to the United States.

Diesel boarded the post office steamer Dresden in Antwerpen to London. He took dinner on board the ship and then retired to his cabin leaving word to be called the next morning. He was never seen alive again. In the morning his cabin was empty and his bed had not been slept in. Ten days later the crew of the Dutch boat Coertsen came upon the corpse of a man floating in the North Sea near Norway. Personal belongings were identified by Diesel's son.

Mass murderer Stephen Craig Paddock known for the Route 91 Harvest shooting commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 64 in Mandalay Bay Hotel, 3950 South Las Vegas Boulevard, Paradise, Nevada, United States.

Before Paddock opened fire on the crowd attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip. From his 32nd-floor suites Paddock fired more than 1.000 bullets, killing 60 people and wounding at least 413. The ensuing panic brought the total number of injured to approximately 867. The motive for the mass shooting remains officially undetermined.

School shooter Charles Carl Roberts aka The Amish School Shooter commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 33 in West Nickel Mines School, Bart Township, Pennsylvania, United States.

Roberts entered the one-room school at 9.51 am with a Springfield XD 9×19mm handgun, a Browning 12 gauge shotgun, a Ruger .30-06 bolt-action rifle, about 600 rounds of ammunition, cans of black powder, a stun gun, two knives, a change of clothes, an apparent truss board and a box containing a hammer, hacksaw, pliers, wire, screws, bolts and tape. Roberts shot dead 7-year-old Naomi Rose Ebersol, 13-year-old Marian Stoltzfus Fisher, 12-year-old Anna Mae Stoltzfus, 8-year-old Lena Zook Miller and 7-year-old Mary Liz Miller and injured another five schoolgirls between 6 and 13 years old. The schoolhouse was torn down eleven days after the tragedy and was re-built in a nearby location.

Ehlers was supposed to go on trial for complicity in murder and his role in deporting thousands of Jews to Nazi death camps on 26 November.

Quicker was thought to be the murderer of Monika Tafel on 4 June. 15 years later Joachim Kroll was to be found the real killer roaming around in Walsum and the Ruhr area.

Leader of the l'Ordre International Chevaleresque de Tradition Solaire cult Luc Jouret commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 47 in Les Roches de Cristal, Salvan, Valais, Switzerland.

With Jouret 48 members of the Order of the Solar Temple commited suicide or were shot dead. 25 people were found in Les Roches de Cristal in Salvan and 23 at La Rochette in Cheiry, Fribourg. The victims were in most cases dressed in a white, black or golden ritual cape, depending on the degree of initiation. In Salvan the victims were injected or injected themselves with a poison based on curare, opioid and benzodiazepine. In Cheiry 20 victims died of one or more bullets to the head, two suffocated by a plastic bag around their head and another probably in the same way.

Walters achieved dubious fame in 1982 when he piloted an aluminium lawn chair attached to 42 helium weather balloons, dubbed 'Inspiration I', 16.000 feet above from San Pedro to Long Beach.

Mass murderer Panya Khamrab known for the Nong Bua Lamphu attack commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 34 in Uthai Sawan Nursery, Na Klang, Nong Bua Lamphu, Thailand.

During the day Khamrab stabbed and shot dead at least 24 children and 14 adults in three locations, including his wife and son. An additional 12 people were injured. Earlier on this day Khamrab attended a court session regarding drug offenses and was scheduled to appear for a court hearing on Friday 7 October 2022 in connection with his offenses.

Iqbal confessed to the murders of 100 boys all aged between 6 and 16 and was sentenced to death by hanging, the judge passed sentence saying "You will be strangled to death in front of the parents whose children you killed, Your body will then be cut into 100 pieces and put in acid, the same way you killed the children."

Beaumont was protesting the US involvement in the war in Vietnam. There were no indications of escapism or frustration. This was an immolation, a supreme sacrifice to humanity, to peace and freedom for all mankind."

McCollum had been listening to Ozzy Osbourne singing 'Suicide Solution' all day long. In a lawsuit McCollum’s parents claimed that there were hidden lyrics in the song that incited the teenager to kill himself. A California court dismissed the McCollums’ lawsuit in 1988, ruling that John’s suicide was not a foreseeable result of Osbourne’s song.

Poulin opened fire on his classmates with a shotgun, killing 17-year-old classmate Mark Hough and wounding six others before killing himself. Earlier that day Poulin had raped and sodomized 17-year-old Sri Lankan Kim Rabot in his own bedroom before stabbing her to death.

Nicholson, assistant professor Robert Alan Smith, 27-year-old fellow graduate student Linhua Shan, 56-year-old assistant vice president for academic affairs T. Anne Cleary and seriously wounded 23-year-old student employee Miya Rodolfo-Sioson before committing suicide. Lu was infuriated because his dissertation 'Study of the "Critical Ionization Velocity" Effect by Particle-in-Cell Simulation' did not receive the prestigious D.C. Spriestersbach Dissertation Prize. In the months prior to the shooting Lu wrote five letters explaining the reasons for his planned actions.

School shooter Pekka-Eric Auvinen known for the Jokela school shooting commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 18 in Jokela High School, Jokela, Uusimaa, Finland.

Auvinen killed eight people and wounded one person in the toe before shooting himself in the head with a SIG Mosquito .22 calibre semi-automatic pistol, twelve others were also injured by flying shattered glass or sprained ankles. The dead were 17-year-old Sameli 'Same' Nurmi, 17-year-old Mika Petteri Pulkkinen, 18-year-old Ari Juhani Palsanen, 25-year-old Hanna Katariina Laaksonen Kinnunen, 43-year-old nurse Sirkka Anneli Kaarakka, 17-year-old Mikko Tapani 'Mikkous' Hiltunen, 16-year-old Ville Valtteri 'Viltsi' Heinonen and 61-year-old head teacher Helena Kalmi. Before setting off on his rampage Auvinen uploaded a file package containing 21 media files to the internet. It contained pictures of himself, his firearm, Jokela High School, one undisclosed music file and three documents in Finnish and English. The longest text was the 'Manifesto of the Natural Selector' in which Auvinen explained his thoughts and rationale behind the shooting.

Anti-war protester Roger Allen LaPorte commits suicide by self-immolation at the age of 22 in United Nations Building, New York, Manhattan, New York, United States.

LaPorte composed himself in the position of the Buddhist monks of Vietnam, doused himself with gasoline and set himself aflame. LaPorte died the next day at Bellevue Hospital from second- and third-degree burns covering 95 percent of his body. Despite his burns LaPorte remained conscious and able to speak. When asked why he had burned himself LaPorte calmly replied, "I'm a Catholic Worker. I'm against war, all wars. I did this as a religious action...all the hatred of the world." At the hospital, Catholic Workers sang 'This Little Light of Mine'.

That same day Jones coaxed 910 inhabitants of Jonestown including 303 children into a mass suicide by drinking cyanide-laced grape-flavored Flavor Aid. At the end of a 45-minute recording made during the mass suicide, Jones concluded: "We didn't commit suicide; we committed an act of revolutionary suicide protesting the conditions of an inhumane world."

Poet, writer and actor Yukio Mishima commits suicide by Seppuku at the age of 45 in Eastern Command of Japan's Self-Defense Forces Headquarters, Tokyo, Shinjuku, Kantō, Japan.

The act was to end in Mishima's ritual decapitation by Tatenokai member Masakatsu Morita. Morita, who was rumored to have been Mishima's lover, was unable to perform the decapitation properly: after several failed attempts, he allowed another Tatenokai member, Hiroyasu Koga, to finish the job. After Mishima was decapitated, Morita also attempted to commit Seppuku and was beheaded by Koga.

Mass murderer Robert Arthur Hawkins aka The Omaha Mall Gunman commits suicide by a shot through the head at the age of 19 in Westroads Mall, intersection of 100th and Dodge Streets, Omaha, Nebraska, United States.

Hawkins stepped out of the elevator on the third floor and opened fire. He killed eight people and wounded four others over the course of six minutes, before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head near the customer service desk. An hour before the rampage, Hawkins' mother gave the Sarpy County Sheriff's Department his suicide note which stated, "I just want to take a few peices  of shit with me... just think tho, I'm gonna be fuckin famous."

Mass murderer Marc Lépine aka The Women-Hating Rambo commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 25 in École Polytechnique, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

In the twenty minutes before Lépine shot dead fourteen women and injured fourteen people more. Lépine separated the women from about 50 men, instructing the men to leave and stated that he was "fighting feminism" and opened fire. Lépine continued through the second and third floors, targeting women only. The victims were 21-year-old Geneviève Bergeron, 23-year-old Hélène Colgan, 23-year-old Nathalie Croteau, 22-year-old Barbara Daigneault, 21-year-old Anne-Marie Edward, 29-year-old Maud Haviernick, 25-year-old Maryse Laganière, 23-year-old Maryse Leclair, 22-year-old Anne-Marie Lemay, 28-year-old Sonia Pelletier, 21-year-old Michèle Richard, 23-year-old Annie St-Arneault, 20-year-old Annie Turcotte and 31-year-old Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz. Lépine's inside jacket pocket contained a suicide letter containing a list of nineteen Quebec women whom Lépine apparently wished to kill because he considered them feminists.

Before jumping to his death Vitkovic shot dead 19-year-old Judith Anne Morris, 20-year-old Julie Faye McBean,18-year-old Annunziata "Nancy" Avignone, 29-year-old Warren David Spencer, 38-year-old Michael Francis McGuire, 38-year-old Marianne Jacoba Van Ewyk, 28-year-old Catherine Mary Dowling and 32-year-old Rodney Gerard Brown with a sawn-off  M1 carbine in about five minutes time on several floors of the building. In a note addressed to his parents and dated the day of the massacre he wrote "Today is going to be the day. The anger in my head has got too much for me. I've got to get rid of my violent impulses. The time has come to die. There is no other way out."

Actress Lupe Vélez aka The Mexican Spitfire commits suicide by an overdose of 80 Seconal pills at the age of 36 in Glendale, California, United States.

Instead of dying from the overdose, Vélez' stomach got upset and she drowned while vomiting in the toilet. A popular belief is that Vélez was unable to face the shame of giving birth to a child out of wedlock. Eventual fathers of the unborn child were actors Harald Maresch, Arturo de Córdova and Gary Cooper.

Journalist, satirist and writer Kurt Tucholsky aka Kaspar Hauser, Peter Panter, Theobald Tiger and Ignaz Wrobel commits suicide by an overdose of sleeping pills at the age of 45 in Hindås, Västergötland, Sweden.

Serial killer and cannibal Karl Denke aka Papa Denke commits suicide by hanging in his cell at the age of 64 in Münsterberg, Niederschlesien, Germany.

Denke was arrested after attacking Vincenz Oliver with a hackblade during dinner. When police searched his house at Teichstraße 10, they found drums with salted meat and written notes about 20 years of murder and cannibalism.

Heavy Metal fan Raymond Eugene Belknap commits suicide by a shot through the head at the age of 18 in Reno, Nevada, United States.

Belknap and his 20-year-old friend James Vance engaged in a suicide pact after listening intensively to the Judas Priest song "Better by You, Better than Me" that supposedly contained a subliminal message "do it". Vance followed but survived the self-inflicted gunshot wound with a severely disfigured face. He died three years later after a suicidal overdose of painkillers.

Chase saved up his daily dose of prison doctor-prescribed Sinequan (doxepin hydrochloride) for several weeks.

During a family reunion Dreesman shot dead his parents 79-year-old John and 74-year-old Agnes Dreesman, his widowed sister Marilyn Chuang and her three children 12-year-old Jason, 11-year-old Jennifer and 8-year-old Joshua.

Doctor and a double agent suicide bomber Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi aka Abu Dujana al-Khurasani commits suicide by suicide bombing at the age of 32 in Camp Chapman, Khost, Khost, Afghanistan.

Seven American CIA officers and contractors, an officer of Jordan's intelligence service and an Afghan working for the CIA were killed when al-Balawi detonated a bomb sewn into a vest he was wearing. Six other American CIA officers were wounded.

First democratically elected President of Georgia in the post-Soviet era Zviad Gamsakhurdia commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 54 in Khibula, Mingrelia, Georgia.

Gamsakhurdia shot himself when he and a group of colleagues found the building where he was sheltering surrounded by forces of the pro-Shevardnadze Mkhedrioni militia.
