Writer Stefan Zweig commits suicide by an overdose of Veronal at the age of -39 in Casa Stefan Zweig, Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Zweig was found the next day hand in hand with his wife Lotte Altmann, also dead.
