27-year-old Adam Janus of Arlington Heights died in the hospital later that day after ingesting Tylenol. His 25-year-old brother Stanley and 19-year-old sister-in-law Theresa later also died after taking Tylenol from the same bottle. Within the next few days 31-year-old Mary McFarland of Elmhurst, 35-year-old Paula Prince and 27-year-old and Mary Reiner all died in similar incidents. In addition to the five bottles that led to the victims' deaths three other contaminated bottles were later discovered. Hundreds of copycat attacks involving Tylenol and other products also took place around the United States immediately following the Chicago deaths.

School shooter Adam Peter Lanza commits suicide by a shot in the head at the age of 20 in Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown, Connecticut, United States. Before Lanza shot and killed 26 people, including 20 children between six and seven years old and six adult staff members with a Bushmaster XM15-E2S rifle and Glock 20SF handgun. Before driving to the school Lanza shot and killed his 52-year-old mother Nancy at their Newtown home.
