Davidson met Thom at a hospital where she counseled alcoholics once a week. A police report called the two quite close. A county probation officer said that just prior to her murder Davidson had tried to sever her sporadic sexual relationship with Thom. Thom pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and was given a sentence of 17 years to life.

Admiral Takijirō Ōnishi aka The Father of the Kamikaze commits suicide by Seppuku at the age of 54 in Tokyo, Kantō, Japan. Ōnishi did not use a kaishakunin (second), and died of self-inflicted injuries over a period of 15 hours.
