Kelly was the fifth and final victim of Jack the Ripper. Her ears, nose and breasts are cut off, kidneys and heart ripped out and placed on a table by the side of the bed, her uterus was removed and pieces of flesh hung from nails on the walls.

Anti-war protester Roger Allen LaPorte commits suicide by self-immolation at the age of 22 in United Nations Building, New York, Manhattan, New York, United States.

LaPorte composed himself in the position of the Buddhist monks of Vietnam, doused himself with gasoline and set himself aflame. LaPorte died the next day at Bellevue Hospital from second- and third-degree burns covering 95 percent of his body. Despite his burns LaPorte remained conscious and able to speak. When asked why he had burned himself LaPorte calmly replied, "I'm a Catholic Worker. I'm against war, all wars. I did this as a religious action...all the hatred of the world." At the hospital, Catholic Workers sang 'This Little Light of Mine'.

De Gaulle had been watching the evening news on television and playing Solitaire around 7.40 p.m. when he suddenly pointed to his neck and said "I feel a pain right here" and collapsed.

In a five-page letter to his pastor found on the desk in his study List wrote that he saw too much evil in the world, and he had ended the lives of his family members to save their souls. List settled in Denver, Colorado in early 1972 and resumed working as an accountant under the name Robert Peter 'Bob' Clark and remained at large for 18 years.

Peterson met Bishop at a Salt Lake City roller-skating rink the day before. They talked about skates, Peterson mentioning that he would like to sell his and buy a new pair. Bishop feigned interest, telling Peterson he would pay $35 for the skates. It is unclear whether Bishop agreed to meet Peterson on Sunday or what name he used, but Peterson left home with the skates telling his parent he had found a buyer.
