    Kidnapper and murderer Thomas Harold Thurmond is lynched with his accomplice John Maurice Holmes by a raging mob of 5.000 to 15.000 men, women and children at the age of 27 in St. James Park, San Jose, California, United States.

    Thurmond and Holmes had kidnapped and killed Brooke Hart on 9 November but continued to send ransom notes to his family, owners of Harts Department Store. Governor James 'Sunny Jim' Rolph praised the action, stating that California had sent a message to future kidnappers and promised to pardon anyone involved in the lynching.
