46-year-old mass murderer John List aka The Bogeyman of Westfield kills his 85-year-old mother Alma, his 45-year-old wife Helen and his children 16-year-old Patricia, 15-year-old John and 13-year-old Frederick with a 9mm Steyr 1912 semi-automatic handgun and a Colt .22 caliber revolver in 431 Hillside Avenue, Westfield, New Jersey, United States. In a five-page letter to his pastor found on the desk in his study List wrote that he saw too much evil in the world, and he had ended the lives of his family members to save their souls. List settled in Denver, Colorado in early 1972 and resumed working as an accountant under the name Robert Peter 'Bob' Clark and remained at large for 18 years.
