(-) 90 Years Ago Today Their Mangled Remains Were Visited by ThousandsSunday 3rd of November 1935
Serial bomber Hugh F. 'Idzy' Rutkowski aka The Mad Bomber of Milwaukee dies in a massive bomb explosion at the age of 21 in 2121 W. Mitchell Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States.
The force of the explosion was so great that a large section of the garage roof was blown over the alley and two whole houses before landing in Mitchell Street. Rutkowski's 16-year-old accomplice Paul 'Shrimp' Chevanek also died in the explosion. At 2117-B Mitchell Street 9-year-old Patricia Mylnarek was killed by the impact of the explosion. The mangled remains of the two bombers were put on display at the county morgue and according the Journal, were “visited by thousands.” The bits and pieces of Rutkowski and Chevanek that could be collected had to be buried in the same coffin because there was no way to tell them apart. | |

Psychoanalist and pioneer of sexual freedom Wilhelm Reich dies of myocardial insufficiency with sudden heart failure at the age of 60 in United States Penitentiary, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, United States.
Reich was serving a two-year term for distributing his invention, the 'orgone energy accumulator' in violation of the Food and Drug Act. Reich was buried in a vault at Orgonon that he had asked his caretaker to dig in 1955. He had left instructions that there was to be no religious ceremony but that a record should be played of Schubert's 'Ave Maria' sung by Marian Anderson. | |

Soviet space dog Laika aka Barker dies of overheating in a Sputnik 2 capsule at the age of 3 in Geocentric Orbit, Space.
Laika died within hours from overheating possibly caused by a failure of the central R-7 sustainer to separate from the payload. The true cause and time of her death were not made public until 2002; instead, it was widely reported that she died when her oxygen ran out on day six, or as the Soviet government initially claimed, she was euthanised prior to oxygen depletion. | |

Over 1000 die in fuel tanker and munitions truck collision in Salang Tunnel, Parwan, Afghanistan.
Drivers of cars, trucks and buses evidently continued to enter the tunnel after the explosion. Soviet troops, fearing that the explosion might have been a rebel attack, closed off both ends with tanks, trapping many inside. Some burned to death; others were killed by smoke and by carbon monoxide escaping from vehicles whose drivers kept their engines idling to stay warm in the freezing cold. As many as 700 Soviet troops and 2,000 Afghan soldiers and civilians may have died. | |

Shortly after he was arrested Yang confessed to 65 murders, 23 rapes and five attacks causing serious injury: 49 murders, 17 rapes and five attacks in Henan; eight murders and three rapes in Hebei; six murders and two rapes in Anhui; and two murders and one rape in Shandong. | |
