Peterson met Bishop at a Salt Lake City roller-skating rink the day before. They talked about skates, Peterson mentioning that he would like to sell his and buy a new pair. Bishop feigned interest, telling Peterson he would pay $35 for the skates. It is unclear whether Bishop agreed to meet Peterson on Sunday or what name he used, but Peterson left home with the skates telling his parent he had found a buyer.

Mathematician and serial bomber Theodore John 'Ted' Kaczynski aka The Unabomber is found unresponsive in his cell at the age of 81 in Federal Medical Center, Old North Carolina Highway 75, Butner, North Carolina, United States. Kaczynski was pronounced dead upon being transported to a nearby hospital. According to three people familiar with the situation Kaczynski died by suicide.
