Marchwicki's trial received great interest; entrance to the room was only allowed by a special entrance ticket. On 28 July 1975 the Katowice Voivodship Court found Marchwicki guilty of the murder of fourteen women and attempted murder of another six, condemning him to death. (18 September 1974)

Monday 23rd of February 1885 (x) — Murderer John Lee is brought upon the scaffold three times to be hanged but the trapdoor refuses to open upon each attempt despite being carefully tested by executioner James Berry Lee continued to petition successive Home Secretaries and was finally released in 1907.
Wednesday 18th of December 1907 (x) — Murderer John Lee is released from prison On 23 February 1885 three attempts were made to carry out Lee's execution. All ended in failure as the trapdoor of the scaffold failed to open despite being carefully tested by executioner James Berry beforehand. As a result Home Secretary Sir William Harcourt commuted the sentence to life imprisonment.
