The entire United States Figure Skating team, on its way to the 1961 World Championships in Prague, was killed in the crash. Farmer Theo De Laet working in the fields was killed by a piece of aluminum debris from the plane, and and his friend Marcel Lauwers' leg was severed by flying debris.

49-year-old entrepreneur Theodor Albrecht is kidnapped by lawyer Hans Joachim Ollenburg and his accomplice Paul Kron in Essen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. Albrecht was released 17 days later after paying a ransom of seven million Deutsche Mark. His kidnappers were eventually caught by authorities but only half of the money was recovered. Albrecht later successfully claimed the ransom as a tax deductible business expense in court. |
