Calder's actual birthday remains a source of much confusion. According to Calder's mother he was born on 22 August yet his birth certificate at Philadelphia City Hall stated 22 July. When Calder's family learned about the birth certificate they reasserted with certainty that city officials had made a mistake.

Arsonist Yaoya Oshichi is executed by burning at the stake at the age of 16 in Suzugamori, Tokyo, Kantō, Japan. In December 1682 Oshichi fell in love with temple page Ikuta Shōnosuke during the great fire at Shōsen-in. The next year she attempted arson, thinking she could meet him again if another fire occurred.
