Peterson met Bishop at a Salt Lake City roller-skating rink the day before. They talked about skates, Peterson mentioning that he would like to sell his and buy a new pair. Bishop feigned interest, telling Peterson he would pay $35 for the skates. It is unclear whether Bishop agreed to meet Peterson on Sunday or what name he used, but Peterson left home with the skates telling his parent he had found a buyer.

The right leg of 71-year-old actress Sarah Bernhardt, originally Rosine Bernardt aka The Divine Sarah is amputated because of gangrene due to an accident in 1905 in Clinique Saint-Augustin, 114 Avenue d'Ares, Bordeaux, Aquitaine, France. Bernhardt reportedly refused a $10.000 offer by a showman to display her amputated leg as a medical curiosity. In December 2008 the leg was found in the basement of the Faculty of Medicine in Bordeaux.
