Ball is known to have killed two and said to have killed as many as 20 women whose remains were fed to his five pet alligators. When two Bexar County sheriff's deputies went to question him, Ball pulled a handgun from his cash register and killed himself with a bullet through the heart.

 Second Secretary-General of the United Nations Dag Hjalmar Agne Carl Hammarskjöld dies in a Douglas DC-6B plane crash at the age of 56 in Ndola, , Zambia. Hammarskjöld and fifteen others perished in the crash. The circumstances of the incident are still not clear. There is some recent evidence that suggest the plane was shot down. |
