A witness to the accident told police that Hughes was driving erratically and too fast and that Meyer had been standing in the safety zone of a streetcar stop. Hughes was booked on suspicion of negligent homicide and held overnight in jail. On 16 July 1936 Hughes was held blameless by a coroner's jury at the inquest into Meyer's death. (11 July 1936)

Monday 18th of September 1961 (-) — Second Secretary-General of the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld dies in a Douglas DC-6B plane crash. Hammarskjöld and fifteen others perished in the crash. The circumstances of the incident are still not clear. There is some recent evidence that suggest the plane was shot down.
