Monday 18th of September 1961 (-) — Second Secretary-General of the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld dies in a Douglas DC-6B plane crash. Hammarskjöld and fifteen others perished in the crash. The circumstances of the incident are still not clear. There is some recent evidence that suggest the plane was shot down.
