Experimental filmmaker Maya Deren born as Eleanora Derenkowskaia dies of a brain haemorrhage at the age of 44 in New York City, New York, United States. Deren's brain haemorrhage was brought on by extreme malnutrition. There were also rumors of a Voodoo curse and the use of suspect vitamin shots from Dr. Max Jacobson aka 'Doctor Feelgood'.
