This was Beethoven's first on-stage appearance in 12 years; the hall was packed with an eager audience and a number of musicians. The whole audience acclaimed Beethoven through standing ovations five times; there were handkerchiefs in the air, hats, raised hands, so that Beethoven, who could not hear the applause, could at least see the ovation gestures. Thursday 14th of June 1923 (-) — Prime Minister of Bulgaria Aleksandar Stamboliyski is tortured and executed by members of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization after a coup d'état. Stamboliyski's hand that signed the Treaty of Niš was cut off. His head was sent to Sofia in a box of biscuits.
