'On 17 March 1853 Christian Andreas Doppler died of a pulmonary embolism at the age of 50 in Venezia, Veneto, Italy. He was known for the Doppler Effect, the effect that produces a change in frequency or wavelength of a wave or other periodic event for an observer moving relative to its source or vice versa. 164 years later on this day I lay on the floor while a shortwave radio was tied to a rotating device, circling it to and from my head whereby there was a change in frequency and wavelength of the static noise on the radio. The fire started when the band Gurizada Fandangueira ignited fireworks during their show. The high death toll was due to the lack of emergency exits (the only access in and out of the building was the front door) and the fact that the number of people inside exceeded the maximum capacity by hundreds.
