All the patients, mostly depressed young women, were severely sedated and locked up behind barred windows. 30 patients were heavily burned. The fire started when a nurse, who also died in the disaster, helped escape a patient who set fire to solitary confinement room 22 and forgot to close the door. (25 June 1993)

Monday 25th of April 1859 (x) — British and French engineers start digging the Suez Canal. The excavation took some 10 years using forced labour of Egyptian workers during the first years. The inauguration of the Suez Canal was on 17 November 1869.
