Monday 28th of June 1971 (x) — Before thousands of stunned spectators and amid heavy police security, Mobster and crime boss Joseph Colombo is shot three times in the head and neck by black street hustler Jerome Johnson Colombo remained paralyzed for the next seven years. In 1975 a court-ordered examination showed that Colombo could move his thumb and forefinger on his right hand. In 1976 there were reports that he could recognize people and utter several words. Colombo died of cardiac arrest on 22 May 1978.
