The avant-garde nature of the music and choreography caused a sensation and one of the most famous classical music riots in history in the audience. The trouble began when two factions in the audience began attacking each other, but their mutual anger was soon diverted towards the orchestra: "Everything available was tossed in our direction, but we continued to play on". Around forty of the worst offenders were ejected, possibly with the intervention of the police. (29 May 1913)

Sunday 3rd of September 1939 (x) — Aristocratic socialite and devotee of Adolf Hitler Unity Mitford attempts to commit suicide by a shot in the head when she hears her lover declare war to the United Kingdom. Surviving the suicide attempt Mitford was hospitalised in München where she was visited by Hitler despite the on-going war. Hitler paid her bills and arranged for Mitford's return home.
