Sutcliffe ran off when he saw the lights of a passing car, leaving Browne requiring brain surgery. Sutcliffe was not convicted of the attack but confessed in 1992. Browne later said that she had been charmed by Sutcliffe at first: "We had walked together for almost a mile – for about 30 minutes and I never once felt intimidated or in danger." (27 August 1975)
