All Oregon executions except for that of Long have been held within the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem. Long died in a special concrete structure built near the prison because the superintendent believed it would have less of a 'bad psychological effect' on other inmates. But the state later determined that the penal code required executions to occur within the penitentiary walls. (8 August 1952)

Tuesday 7th of January 1536 (-) — Princess of Wales and first wife of Henry VIII Catalina de Aragón dies of cancer. Rumours of poisoning were born after the apparent discovery during Catalina's embalming that there was a black growth on her heart that might have been caused by poisoning. Modern medical experts are in agreement that her heart's discolouration was due not to poisoning but to cancer, something which was not understood at the time.
