The bomb was contained in a hollowed out ream of paper and had an accompanying letter explaining that it was a manuscript for review. It was opened by Nick Suino, an assistant to Dr. McConnell. The bomb exploded injuring both Suino and McConnell. Suino suffered burns and shrapnel wounds to his arms and abdomen. McConnell suffered damage to his ear drum resulting in temporary hearing loss. The bomb had the initials 'FC' stamped into one of the plugs sealing the pipe containing the explosives. (15 November 1985)
