Schönberg had spent the whole day in bed suffering from triskaidekaphobia. On his seventy-sixth birthday, his friend, mentor and fellow composer Oskar Adler wrote Schönberg a note warning him that the year was a critical one: 7 + 6 = 13. This stunned and depressed the composer, for up to that point he had only been wary of multiples of 13 and never considered adding the digits of his age. (13 July 1951)

Friday 23rd of July 1982 (x) — Mass murderer James Ruppert has a review of his trial. A 3-judge panel found Ruppert guilty of first degree murder in the case of his mother and brother but this time, they found him not guilty on the other 9 counts of murder by reason of insanity. He received life sentences for each of the two charges to be served consecutively rather than concurrently.
