Friday 6th of September 1901 (x) — 25th President of the United States William McKinley is shot twice in the abdomen with a .32-caliber Iver Johnson revolver by Polish anarchist Leon Czolgosz. McKinley died eight days later on 14 September of gangrene caused by the gunshot wounds. "It was in my heart, there was no escape for me. I could not have conquered it had my life been at stake.
