When 48-year-old Garland police officer Gerald Walker stopped Hittle for speeding, Hittle shot him in the chest at close range. He then proceded to Mary Goss' home, kicked in the door and opened fire, killing 39-year-old Goss, 36-year-old Richard Cook Jr. and 19-year-old Raymond Gregg. After reloading Hittle shot Goss' 4-year-old daughter Christy Condon. Hittle was on parole for killing his adoptive parents at the time of the murders.
