They were arrested when their stolen car stalled and Starkweather got hit by shattered glass from the windshield as pursuing officers chased him. Converse County Sheriff Earl Heflin said "He thought he was bleeding to death. That's why he stopped. That's the kind of yellow son of a bitch he is."
