United Airlines Flight 175 departed Logan Airport at 8:14 a.m. en route to Los Angeles with a crew of nine and 51 passengers, not including five hijackers. The hijackers flew the plane into the southern facade of the South Tower at 9:03 a.m. The four other hijackers were 24-year-old Fayez Banihammad, 22-year-old Mohand al-Shehri, 20-year-old Hamza al-Ghamdi and 22-year-old Ahmed al-Ghamdi.

 Politician and diplomat Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Molotov is born as Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Skryabin in Kukarka, Kirov Oblast, Russia. Skryabin took the pseudonym 'Molotov', derived from the Russian molot (hammer) for his political work owing to the name's vaguely 'industrial' ring. |
