The jury quickly found Charteris guilty. On 2 March, he was sentenced to death and held in Newgate Prison. On 10 April 1730 after a substantial campaign to pardon Charteris, joined by Anne Bond, King George II granted him a royal pardon.

Anna Marie Steffen is strangled by serial killer Arthur Shawcross aka The Genesee River Killer at the age of 28 in Rochester, New York, United States.

Steffen's body was found on 11 September.
