Chubbuck was doing a live newscast during her Suncoast Digest show and said "In keeping with Channel 40's policy of bringing you the latest in blood and guts, and in living color, you are going to see another first: an attempted suicide" and shot herself behind the left ear. Chubbuck was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead fourteen hours later.

Serial rapist and murderer Robert Charles Clark is executed by lethal injection at the age of 48 in Huntsville Prison, 815 12th Street, Huntsville, Texas, United States. At the time of his arrest Clark was wanted for the rape of 33 women. Clark later confessed to the police that he had actually raped and attacked more than 100 women.
