 2000 Die in SS Mont-Blanc explosion in The Narrow, Richmond, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The SS Mont-Blanc was a French cargo ship fully loaded with wartime explosives that collided with the Norwegian vessel SS Imo. Approximately twenty minutes later, a fire on board the SS Mont-Blanc ignited her explosive cargo, causing a cataclysmic explosion that devastated the Richmond District.
