Beets was convicted to death for shooting her fifth husband Jimmy Don Beets on 6 August 1983. Also found buried in a garage were the remains of another Beets' husband, Doyle Wayne Barker. Beets did not request a final meal.

Double murderer Reuben Dunbar is executed by hanging at the age of 22 in New York Hospital, New York City, New York, United States. Dunbar killed his two nephews 9-year-old David and 7-year-old Stephen V. Lester in Westerlo on 28 September 1850.
