Davison entered the race track in order to attach the Women's Social and Political Union flag to Anmer, so that when the horse crossed the finishing line it would be flying the WSPU flag. Davison died four days later in Epsom Cottage Hospital due to a fractured skull and internal injuries caused by the incident.

423 Die in Admiral Nakhinov passenger liner and Pyotr Vasev bulk carrier collision in Off Novorossiysk port, Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai, Russia. The event was not reported in the news for forty eight hours. The survivors were only allowed to send telegrams saying "Alive and well in Novorossiysk."
