Byck shot and killed Maryland Aviation Administration Police officer George Neal Ramsburg before storming aboard Delta Air Lines DC-9 Flight 523 to Atlanta, which he wanted to crash on the White House to kill President Nixon. When pilots Reese Doug Loftin and Fred Jones told him they could not take off until wheel blocks were removed he shot them both. After a standoff with police Byck committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

Murderer Robert Goodale is executed by hanging by John Berry at the age of 45 in Norwich Castle, Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom. When the drop fell, officials were horrified to find that Goodale's head had been torn clean from his shoulders.
