49 years ago They Died in Space

43-year-old commander Georgy Dobrovolsky, 38-year-old test engineer Viktor Patsayev and 37-year-old flight engineer Vladislav Volkov are found dead upon returning in their Soyuz 11 after breaking the record of staying in space for 23 days in Shalginskiy, Zhanaarka, Kazakhstan.

The three crew members of Soyuz 11 are the only humans known to have died in space.
