Christine Freund is shot dead by serial killer David Berkowitz aka Son of Sam at the age of 27 in Queens, New York, New York, United States.

Freund and her 30-year-old lover John Diel were sitting in Diel's car preparing to drive to a dance hall after having seen the movie Rocky. Three gunshots penetrated the car at about 12:40 a.m. In a panic Diel drove away for help. He suffered minor superficial injuries but Freund died several hours later at the hospital.
