Over 500 Die in Galicia mail express, a shunting engine and a coal train collision and fire in Tunnel Nº 20, Torre del Bierzo, León, Spain. Although the official death toll was 78 and at the time it was estimated to be 200–250, more recent studies have estimated the death toll at over 500.
