Gangster Baby Face John Nelson born as Lester Joseph Gillis dies of gun wounds after being shot by FBI agents at the age of 26 in Walnut Street, Wilmette, Illinois, United States. Nelson had been shot a total of nine times, including a fatal machine gun slug in his abdomen slicing through his liver and pancreas. Federal Agents Herman 'Ed' Hollis and Samuel P. Cowley were shot dead by Nelson in the gun battle.
