Benazir Bhutto is shot dead and a suicide bomb is detonated immediately following the shooting at the age of 54 in Liaqat National Bagh, Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan. Twenty three other people were killed by the bombing. Al-Qaeda commander Mustafa Abu al-Yazid claimed responsibility for the assassination.
