Tisdall was partly deaf and blind and could only move around with the aid of a walking frame. On this day she had managed a rare trip out to have her hair done especially for the occasion of the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of York which was being broadcast on television that day. She was Erskine's last victim.

A large crowd of bystanders gathered on the street, witnessing 62 people jumping or falling to their deaths from the burning building.
