General Secretary of the Romanian Communist Party Nicolae Ceaușescu aka The Genius of the Carpathians is executed by the firing squad at the age of 71 in Târgoviște, Dâmbovița, Romania. Ceaușescu and his 70-year-old wife Elena had been sentenced to death by a People’s Court. The Ceaușescus were executed by a gathering of soldiers including Captain Ionel Boeru, Sergeant-Major Georghin Octavian and Dorin-Marian Cîrlan.
