Cop killer George W. Barret aka Diamond King is executed by hanging at the age of 55 in Marion County, Indiana, United States. He was the first person sentenced to death by hanging under a congressional act that made it a capital offense to kill a federal agent. At the time of his execution he was still crippled from his wounds and had to be carried to the gallows on a stretcher and supported by deputy marshals.
