The dead included Mamah Borthwick Cheney, her two children, John and Martha; gardener David Lindblom; draftsman Emil Brodelle; workman Thomas Brunker; and another workman's son Ernest Weston. Carlton swallowed hydrochloric acid following the attack in an attempt to kill himself. He was nearly lynched on the spot, but was taken to the Dodgeville jail. Carlton died from starvation seven weeks after the attack.

 Double murderer Kenneth Manuel Stewart is executed by Old Sparky at the age of 43 in Greensville Correctional Center, Jarratt, Virginia, United States. Born-again Christian Stewart said he elected to die in the electric chair as opposed to lethal injection because death row inmates choosing lethal injection must be strapped to a gurney with their arms outstretched in the same manner that Jesus died on a cross. "They can shoot me, hang me, or do what they want to but I won't die with my arms outstretched, you know, like the son of God." |
