 Sculptor Alexander 'Sandy' Calder is born in Lawnton, Pennsylvania, United States. Calder's actual birthday remains a source of much confusion. According to Calder's mother he was born on 22 August yet his birth certificate at Philadelphia City Hall stated 22 July. When Calder's family learned about the birth certificate they reasserted with certainty that city officials had made a mistake. |
