All three survived but Brady suffered brain damage and was permanently disabled. Hinckley was suffering from erotomania and his motivation for the attack was born of his obsession with actress Jodie Foster.

Irish republican hunger striker Raymond McCreesh born as Réamonn Mac Raois dies after 61 days of hungerstriking at the age of 24 in Maze Prison, Lisburn, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. McCreesh was the third to die in the 1981 Irish Hunger Strike.
