31-year-old stigmatised monk Pio of Pietrelcina, originally Francesco Forgione has his first occurence of stigmata while kneeling before a cross in Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie, San Giovanni Rotondo, Puglia, Italy. This phenomenon continued for fifty years, until Pio's death in 1968.
