Bartsch was an illegitimate child whose birth mother died of tuberculosis soon afterward, and he spent the first months of his life being cared for by nurses. At 11 months he was adopted by a butcher and his wife in Langenberg, who gave him the name Jürgen Bartsch.

21-year-old performance artist Danny Devos aka DDV performs 'Vlaamse Primitieven' with Kamagurka and De Vlaamse Primitieven in Zaal Alcazar, Koningshooikt, Antwerpen, Belgium. During a concert by ‘Kamagurka en de Vlaamse Primitieven’ I stood on the stage blindfolded and with my hands and feet tied up. Now and then several musicians pushed me over.
