When Turing's body was discovered, an apple lay half-eaten beside his bed, and although the apple was not tested for cyanide, it was speculated that this was the means by which a fatal dose was consumed. In 1952, Turing was convicted of acts of gross indecency after admitting to a sexual relationship with a man in Manchester. He was placed on probation and required to undergo hormone therapy.

Betty Elizabeth Marie Cloer is beaten, raped and shot dead by unidentified serial killer the Zodiac Killer at the age of 22 in Placerville, California, United States.

In 2003 DNA investigation pinned the murder to Philip Albert Thompson, already imprisoned for another murder. In 2008 64-year-old Thompson was convicted of first degree murder.
