'On 17 March 1853 Christian Andreas Doppler died of a pulmonary embolism at the age of 50 in Venezia, Veneto, Italy. He was known for the Doppler Effect, the effect that produces a change in frequency or wavelength of a wave or other periodic event for an observer moving relative to its source or vice versa. 164 years later on this day I lay on the floor while a shortwave radio was tied to a rotating device, circling it to and from my head whereby there was a change in frequency and wavelength of the static noise on the radio. On the occasion of the exhibition ‘What Would I Do in Orbit?’ by Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven.'

 26-year-old performance and installation artist Chris Burden starts his performance 'Bed Piece' in Market Street, Venice, California, United States. Burden did not speak to anyone during the performance but the curator Josh Young provided him with water, food, and toilet facilities without being asked. 'Bed Piece' lasted until 10 March 1972. |
